$95.00 A lovely and cute Japanese pickle relish dish dated to the late Meiji period (1868-1912). The type is known as geisha ware due the subject matter so wonderfully represented. It is further without chips, cracks, or any damage whatsoever. It measures 9" long x 3.25" wide.
From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a large carved marble caparisoned elephant from Southern India. Naturalistically carved from a cream / off-white colored marble, this makes for a good decorator's item for those looking to add an Indian flair.
Size and Condition: 12 inches tall, 10 inches long, and 4 inches deep. A very heavy and substantial piece of marble at approximately 20 pounds. Rare and out of print for many years, PJ Donnelly's treatise on Blanc de Chine was the first comprehensive book on this subject, and has become a collector's item in its own right. A must-have reference text for blanc de chine (dehua) collectors. Modern scholarship on blanc de chine has evolved considerably since Donnelly's time, but his work is an essential foundation, and this book remains the most thorough single issue treatment of this subject.
Frederick A. Praeger Publishers, 1st E... From our Southeast Asia Collection, a good contemporary nephrite jade carving of a mother elephant with her infant. Sourced directly from the Chiang Mai region of Thailand in the early 1990's, the jade is a very deep emerald green color, somewhat darker than the website photos which seem to have lightened the jade color due to the flash. A small but charming piece with an endearing subject matter, nicely carved with good weight and heft, and overall an attractive genuine example of Northern Thai...

Southeast Asian : Lacquerware : Pre 1920
item #959584
From our Southeast Asia Collection, a very fine gilded Burmese hsun-ok or offering vessel, late 19th to early 20th century. Gilded offering vessels such as this present example would have been owned by wealthy Burmese families, and used exclusively for bringing food gifts to the monastery. They are constructed of bamboo and turned wood bodies, and decorated with scrolling floral designs called "chupan." Crafting the chupan design is actually a deceptively meticulous and laborious process, one t...

$235.00 One of the great rarities of Thai incised lacquer is this wonderfully detailed condiment box in various colors of burgundy, orange red, yellow, green, and light red lacquer. It is said that the more colors and details found in Thai lacquer, the more expensive it was to produce. This small (4 inches) box displays well and features a Temple dog on the lid, and a peacock on the bottom, very unusual indeed. We date this treasure to the late 19th century and is in excellent well cared for conditio...
