GBP £495 Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Groom Figure (AD 618 - 906)
This attractive pottery figure was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906) and most likely represents a groom. It is made from a red pottery and joins at the sides show it was made in a two-piece mould. The surface has been cold-painted in a white pigment with the facial details picked out in red and black pigments. The figures stands in attendance with hands clasped together under long sleeves. Note also the details of the... Height approximately 44 cm. Some of the glaze on the rim peeled off. In good condition.

Presented on a silver wire inlaid rosewood stand, this is a superb piece and comes in its own presentation box. It measures: Long 10" x High 7.25" x Depth 2.5" plus stand. Dates mid 20th C, late Republic/early People's Republic of China.
Very old wood statue of Buddhist goddess Sho Kannon Bosatsu (one of the many forms of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara), wearing formal robes, and a diadem with bronze decorations on the two sides, standing on a lotus, her left hand holding a vase, her right hand in abhaya mudra. The goddess face reflects a profound meditation. Remnants of the original gilding. Fine age patina. Japan, early Edo period. Height: 25.2 cm. Good condition.

Sold. Thank you. Cotton cloth, called "yu-age”, which is used for a newborn baby. It is ordered by parents of a mother as a congratulatory gift. It has tsutsugaki auspicious motifs, such as a crane, a turtle, pine tree, plum blooms and bamboos. Red part in the top corner is for wiping baby's face, because red color is thought to be good for baby's eyes. It is from Izumo region in Shimane prefecture.
