In the 9th century this portrait of the luohan was painted as well as those of 15 other Ahrats by the painter Guanxiu who was a Buddhist monk. 900 years later, in 1757, Emperor Kienlong during a visit to Shengyin Monastery in the former province of Hang admired the 16 portraits. Tiny porcelain covered jar decorated with plants in polychrome enamels. You can recognize a maple tree. Probably Chinese work of 18th century, but perhaps Japanese Arita late 17°. Enamelled copper snuff bottle. Decor of flying cranes in a reserve on a yellow background. The stopper is in cast bronze and chiselled with care. The prestigious mark of the emperor kien long is affixed under the base but, unfortunately, it is apocryphal. The rod and the teaspoon are made of metal. I think it's a Chinese production of the 20th century. Probably from the end. Height about 7cm. A chip on the foot (see photo) which does not harm the aesthetics of the object.

Statue of Hindu god Indra, wearing a diadem, large earrings and a loin cloth, sitting in a variation of the virasana posture. He has the typical third eye on his forehead. His face reflects a profound inner serenity. The statue is made of gilt bronze, with a nice age patina and remnants of ritual material on the face. Nepal, early 19th century. Height: 24.5 cm. An exceptional fine antique Japanese silver vase with a dragon coiled around it's tall neck. The round body of the vase has a large dragon and churning waves in high relief. The foliate rim and foot are incised with details of chrysanthemum blossoms. There is a 3 character signature on the bottom. An antique Gyosho Tansu (peddler's chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware. Top of chest has a recessed table top where the peddler displayed and demonstrated his wares for sale. Rare Japanese circular jingasa with a gradual domed top, made of iron and decorated with a dragon flying in raised, billowing clouds. The dragon's eyes are of inlaid gold, the rim of the jingasa is bronze and the dome's top has a copper ring tama buchi. The underside is lacquered red. The samurai class in feudal Japan, as well as their retainers and footsoldiers (ashigaru), used several types of jingasa made from iron, copper, wood, paper, bamboo, or leather.

Antique Southeast Asian wood carving of the head of a makara. The Hindu water creature has the head of an elephant/deer and the body of a crocodile (or water monitor) giving it a dragon-like/serpentine appearance. Makara are often seen guarding entrances to holy spaces. This makara head was most likely once part of a temple. The Vahana (vehicle) of the goddess Ganga is a makara. With custom metal stand.
