Sold Wooden netsuke representing two frogs with horn eyes. They are hanging on a round water lily, on and under it.
The frog (kaeru) is associated with luck and wealth. Kaeru means both "frog" and "coming home" in Japanese. This extension of meaning is due to the ability of the frog to return each year to the pond of its birth. A frog-shaped gong can thus sometimes be used as a door hammer or to protect a house.
Signature near the holes for passing the cord, unidentified.

$750.00 Deceptively simple and notoriously difficult to apply with the calligrapher’s brush in one fluid, arching stroke; the symbol of the ensō has long been associated with strength, elegance, and the simultaneous being and non-being of the universe. A closed ensō (such as the one featured here) is more closely associated with the idea of transcendent perfection, while an open ensō represents movement, fluidity, and attainment in the corporeal world. Though the monk who created this piece, Hasega...

Chinese Tang Dynasty Glazed Pottery Groom Figure (12")
This pottery figure was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is "heavily-potted" and made from a pale pinkish-coloured pottery that is relatively highly-fired. The unglazed surfaces, the head and legs, have been "cold painted" in colo...
