BENTA DOLL

As the Japanese female-type local folk toy doll from Kumamoto region (named 'Okin') with long history dating back to the Edo period as originally. Meiji period (1868-1912). Length with cloth legs 53cm x 10.5 x 8.5 cm (20.86 x 4.13 x 3.34in) . Loss of both arms. Cloth legs are very fragile to be ripped due to aged detarioration.

A Tokyo school ivory okimono, depicting Daruma in a symbolic episode of his life: the crossing of the Yangzi River. Bodhidharma seems to float on the carved ripples of the river standing on a lotus leaf. He is portrayed with a serene and contemplative expression, showing a thick beard and long eyebrows. In his left hand, he holds an open umbrella, a symbol of protection, while his right hand forms the Om sign. Signed Gyokushū and Toshitaka under the base. Period: Meiji, late 19th century....

On the outer rim, the floral motif continues with rich detail and a three-dimensional effect thanks to the relief work. Two-panel paper folding screen with gold leaf applications, depicting a naturalistic scene of blue irises in bloom and a sparrow flying among the clouds. Period: Meiji late 19th century Dimensions: 101.5 x 121 cm. Condition: Good. There are signs of wear, losses and retouching on the drawing. Defects along the joints between the first and second panels with restored parts. There are two holes in the paper on the back.

Large porcelain plate finely decorated in polychrome with two fans in the center: one with a brown background with cherry blossoms, the other with a shishi next to blooming peonies. On the sides, there are other refined representations of plants and flowers. The back has a floral motif in blue on a white background of glazed porcelain with a signature in red enamel "Fukagawa sei". Period: Meiji late 19th century. Dimensions: 9 x 55 cm. A rare eight lobed octagonal side small washer with quite well balance potted and covered overall with deep green glazed celadon ware. Five spurs mark to the base.
