To allow any steam to escape, it has windows which were once lined with silk. Brass hardware secures the hinged doors which swing out with small boxes and trays in one side, a square sake bottle with brass spout encased in a wooden stand on the other...

A set of two incense items carved from blocks of dried lacquer, the surfaces polished to reveal the various layers and colors of lacquer used in a mottled pattern. Truly quite spectacular despite their diminutive size, the koro is 10 x 6 x 7.5 cm (4 x 2-1/4 x 3 inches), the kogo is 4 cm (1-1/2 inches) diameter and both are in excellent condition.

A delicate kiri-wood tray decorated with a fledgling among grass puffed up against the cold by important 20th century artist Domoto Insho enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kosuzume Seifu (Small Sparrow, Pure Wind) and signed inside Insho Saku. It is 19 x 19 x 2.5 cm (7-1/2 x 7-1/2 x 1 inch) and is in excellent condition.

Japanese Kutani porcelain bowl decorated in gilt and overglaze polychrome enamels with a scene depicting two figures seated outdoors conversing under a tree. A geometric band interspersed with white flowers decorates the interior rim. There are fine "ao tsubu" (green dot) accents. The exterior is decorated on opposing sides with a prominent yellow flower and ribbon pattern. The base is signed in red "Kutani made." Believed to date from the early Showa Period (circa 1926 - 1935)...

An intriguing white tower by Kato Kiyoyuki enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuho 83-4. It is quite large at 54 cm (21-1/4 inches) and is in excellent condition. Although the size would make one expect it to be heavy, it is incredibly light. Deceptive….Intriguing…It feels more like a sculpture than a vase, a hallmark of this artist.

A versatile platter with three Mukozuke dishes, perfect for condiments or hors-d’oeuvres. I imagine, in Japanese cuisine, a large grilled fish shared by the family, with pink salt, sansho, and sea salt in the three dishes, there to flavor to your taste. The tops are smooth cut like folded paper, but the bottoms are torn away in honeycomb like cubicles, creating a very distinct contrast unique to this artist. The plate is 14 x 28 x 4 cm (5-1/2 x 11 x 1-1/2 inches)...
