Kanzan means "cold mountain" so he is sometimes called the recluse of cold mountain. He was a recluse in the Taoist tradition. He is almost always associated with JITTOKU and the two of the were suppose to have spoken in gibberish to each other...

After graduating from college, Yumi Katsura studied in France and in 1964, she opened the first bridal ware rental shop in Japan...

Japanese Edo Period carved wooden mini KANNON and attendants. The carved and painted KANNON, attendants (8) and hillside are beautifully done with great detail and expression. The hillside measures 9 1/2" tall, 9" wide and 7" deep. There are suppose to be 12 attendants but only 8 remain.

Japanese 20th Century cylindrical vase by Living National Treasure KANAMORI EIICHI (1908-2001). KANAMORI was recognized for his metal inlay work and was considered to be the very best at this craft. The vase has a simple yet elegant design of a single tulip outlined in inlaid silver. The tulip is done in a rusty red color. The vase stands 9 7/8" tall by 3 5/16" wide at the top rim. The vase is signed EIICHI SAKU on the bottom. Comes with TOMOBAKO, original artist signed wooden storage box.

An amazing bit of weaving has been performed on this modern bamboo basket made in the shape of a gardener’s vegetable collecting basket. The long body has tall sides, open at one end, and is signed underneath Tosho. It has been formed of two shades of thinly cut bamboo, susutake and aged yellow take. Susutake is taken from the roofs of traditional houses, highly prized as it takes many years to color, being stained slowely by smoke and soot from the hearth fire...

Japanese 20th century large porcelain vase by FUJII SHUMEI. The large bulbous form is decorated in a beautifully detailed mountain landscape with many trees. Signed SHUMEI on bottom. FUJII SHUMEI is a famous porcelain artist who exhibits at the prestigious annual NITTEN show in Japan. No storage box. The vase measures 12 1/2" tall and has a 11" diameter.

Japanese early 20th century art deco bronze swan. The swan is done in a silver and gold finish. Beautifully designed and executed by artist, JOSHIN. Signed JOSHIN on the bottom. The swan measures 8 3/8" tall, by 9" long and 3 1/2" wide. Comes with box.

Japanese late 18th century white IMARI figure of a gentleman. Formed by hand and made of white porcelain with a clear glaze. The gentleman is dressed in formal kimono and is carrying a fan. Done with wonderful expression and in very nice detail. The piece has some natural flaws in the clay and glaze, such as stress cracks and glazing flaws. The figure stands 17 1/2" tall, is 6 1/2" wide and is 5" deep.

Japanese early 20th century bronze art deco bamboo and sparrow vase. Signed by artist, KOMIN. The bamboo and sparrow are done in high relief. Beautifully made with a oxidized "blue" bronze finish. The vase measures 11" tall and 3 3/8" in diameter at the widest.

Japanese Meiji Period bronze vase. The vase has a poet on the front and bamboo and plum blossoms on the reverse. The handles are done in the shape of stylized elephant heads. Beautifully done with gold, silver and SHAKUDO inlays. Unsigned. The vase measures 13" tall and 8" wide at the handles.

Japanese 20th Century porcelain vase. Made by artist, ITO SUIKO. ITO SUIKO is the art name, or GO of ITO YOSHIHARU 1894-1980. Born in Kyoto, Japan, ITO SUIKO studied ceramics under ITO TOZAN I and ITO TOZAN II. He first showed at the TEITEN in 1929 and established his own kiln in the GOJOZAKA area of Kyoto in 1931. In 1964 he became a judge for the prestigious NITTEN show, held annually in Japan. Stamp of artist, SUIKO, lightly stamped into bottom of vase...

The side of the vase has small raised rectangular areas which have design of fish, snail, chrysanthemums, peaches, shellfish, butterfly, phoenix and Japanese shishi lion. The vase is 10" tall and 9 1/2" in diameter.

A superb pair of Tokkuri sake flasks by LNT Tokuda Yasokichi III (Masahiko, b. 1933) enclosed in the original signed and stamped wooden box. The slightly belted form seems to imitate a gourd, with glaze fading up from rich purple to green to deeply crackled white. Each piece is 6-3/4 inches (17 cm) tall, signed on the base in a traditional Kutani cartouche Masahiko. Masahiko was trained under both his grandfather and father, succeeding the family name in 1988...

A giant mingei carved mask of an oni (demon) embodying the indefinable sense of madness particular to Japanese Demon images. The face has a mysterious mixture of sadness and evil not duplicated in any other culture, a truly pitiable character. The mask, carved from a single block of wood, is just over 2 feet (66 cm) tall and in fine condition.

Festive red paper lanterns parade in a sea of mist across this elegant 20th century scroll by Hayashi Bunto (1886-1966) enclosed in the original signed and stamped wooden box. A wonderful summer-time scene reminding one of all the matsuri-festivals dominating the nights of this season. The silk scene is bordered in blue ending with bone rollers trimmed with gold.
