Slightly distorted Ao-Oribe Chawan with a rounded brim, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part around the foot ring.

The foot ring is typical for Oribe bowls produced around 1610 at the Motoyashikiki and other kilns. The kamajirushi '<' kiln mark beside the foot ring underlines this once again. Such old and spectacular Oribe bowls are usually only viewable in museums...

The 10th KISHU TOKUGAWA shogunate, Harutomi Tokugawa started the official ware (ONIWA ware) in the official KAIRAKUEN kiln in 1819. It was contined until 1867. The emblem of TOKUGAWA Japan's feudal government in EDO era is molded on the body. The seal of the KAIRAKUEN kiln is also clearly visible on the mizusashi...

A spectacular crispy Tsubo by Hayashi Shotaro enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Manyosai Mimitsuki Hanaike. This is the work that Shotaro may be best known, and is the only one able to acquire these colors. It is 25.5 cm (10 inches) tall, 17 x 14.5 cm (7 x 5-1/2 inches) across the base and in excellent condtion.

This is a beautiful rare, wire and wireless vase from Ando. Gonda was probably the artist. It's a big vase standing 30 inches tall. Has beautiful enameling with delicate tonal changes that do not show up well in the images. The vase is in very good condition overall, but does have an excellent fill, an bit bigger than a thumbnail on the back side. See last image.
