A rare carved bone abacus with integral reverse glass painting depicting four boys, in a garden setting, peering into a large fish bowl. There is an added inscritpion carved into one side recording that this item was given as a gift in Hong Kong in 1953. Condition; very good - no damages or losses. 11.5cm (4.5 inches) long; 5.5cm (2.2 inches) wide; 1.5cm deep.

This is an amazing small cloisonne vase. It is only 5 inches tall but has as much fine work as a great 12 inch vase. The rims are silver. It is not signed but the enamel colors and wire designs in the flowers appear to be the work Hayashi. Condition is excellent.

An unusual Tang pottery of a standing dwarf wearing a robe and hat painted in original orange pigments. He has a stocky figure and a sweet countenance on his downward tilt head. He is full of character. Figures such as these are considered a symbol of good luck and are not easy to find.

Two(2) pieces Chinese carved Jade Hardstone Plaques, 7 1/8" long, 1 1/8" high in the center, 3/4" high in the ends, 1/8" thick, there are some small rough spots on the edges. These pieces are made for some art object but never used them.

Standing Bato (Horse-Head) Kannon Bosatsu with hands forming the Bato-in mudra and horse head perched amid the upswept double-chignon hair-do, sculpted in relief from a fine-grained gray-brown igneous stone. Clearly dated to the seventh year of the Meiwa Era (1770), mid-Edo Period. Minor old loss, with overall softening of the lines and contours.

Standing Jizo Bosatsu, the right hand holding a shakujo (crozier) and the left a hoju (sacred jewel), sculpted in bold relief from a gray-brown andesitic tuff, an igneous stone composed primarily of volcanic ash. Early- to mid-Edo Period ca. 1675. Excellent condition, with only very minor old loss. Variegated lichen accumulation.
