Sold. A porcelain hat stand painted in the Qianjiang palette with a young lady contemplating a flower twig at the window. Inscribed with calligraphy in black, dated "ji hai" corresponding to 1899 and signed "Gao Xintian". Base with stamped iron red mark "Guangxu". Condition: no repairs and cracks - little wear to painting and gilt rim. Dimension: 27.8 cm high, diameter: 11.6 cm.

$895 DESCRIPTION: A lovely graduated set of Japanese Kutani porcelain bowls, each delicately hand painted with three overlapping rectangular cartouches which reveal landscape, garden and interior scenes, highlighted with raised gilt decoration. Each bowl is signed on the base, Kutani Sei. The mark and style of this set dates it to the end of Meiji period (1868-1912), from around 1910-20. All bowls are in excellent condition, no chips or restorations.

Probably Jizo Bosatsu placed within a recessed rectangular alcove beneath an overarching pediment-style mandorla, a large hoju (sacred jewel) resting upon the arms placed horizontally across the chest with pendant sleeves, sculpted in abbreviated relief from a light-hued igneous stone. Late-Muromachi Period ca. 1550. Minor old loss, with overall softening of the lines and contours of the figure. Light lichen accumulation.
