SOLD Antique Japanese cha tansu (tea storage chest) with a lovely red/brown lacquered burl front with a gorgeous shine, and a warm honey-tone lacquered top and interior. It has many sliding door panels with plenty of storage space and shelving within, and five exterior drawers with interesting V-shaped handles.

SOLD. Probably Jizo Bosatsu placed within a recessed rectangular alcove beneath an overarching pediment-style mandorla, a large hoju (sacred jewel) resting upon the arms placed horizontally across the chest with pendant sleeves, sculpted in abbreviated relief from a light-hued igneous stone. Late-Muromachi Period ca. 1550. Minor old loss, with overall softening of the lines and contours of the figure. Light lichen accumulation.

Nicely painted decoration of three flower arrangements on each cup - the bouquets respectively centering a peony, a chrysanthemum and a camellia bloom (appearing to represent blooms from different seasons.) SOLD. Gorinto (5-tiered stupa) sculpted in shallow relief from a grayish igneous stone, featuring a centrally placed bonji (Siddham-script Sanskrit character) symbolizing Amida Buddha. Early-Edo Period ca. 1650, possibly earlier. Minor old loss. Variegated lichen accumulation.

$3,000.00 Antique Japanese gyosho bako, or merchant's chest, in a tall and slender style with many drawers. It is made of kiri (paulownia) wood with a dark brown lacquer. The drawers bear an emblem faded from age, perhaps once used to label the contents inside. The very bottom drawer has an iron locking plate. Edo age (1615-1867).
Exhibited in Palo Alto Cultural Center.

Sold. Thank you Two Tibetan bone carvings of dancing Dakinis from a ceremonial bone apron. One Dakini carries a chopper, kapala (skull cup) and a skull scepter; the other holds a kapala in her left hand. Both have large scrolling swirls carved above and below them. The backs have numerous holes for stringing. The bone is probably from a Yak.
Period: 18th/19th Century. Size: 16cm & 17cm. W. Both 4cm. Condition: No repairs. cracks or chips.

A pair of Jianyang hare-furs tea bowls was well mold in fine shape. In evert mouth rim, the bowls were stand by circular foot rings. Characteristic abrasion was found at the foot ring where the body clay was covered with burial adhesives. Incursions were also found on the mouth rim.
