SOLD Antique Japanese candle holder made of iron, with attractive teardrop shaped tiers that hold five candles on each side, two inside, and one main candle at its very top. Its base is rectangular and solid, with a nice patina, and it stands on three legs.

SOLD. A standing Jizo Bosatsu placed within a recessed alcove beneath an overarching pediment-style mandorla, sculpted in relief from a high-quality granite. Early-Edo Period ca. 1650, possibly earlier. Old loss, most notably to the lower-left edge, and softening of the lines and contours of the figure. Good lichen accumulation.

The clasp is marked 'silver' and by the art deco design of it we date the piece to the 1920 - 1930's. The necklace measures 24" and consists of three strands. This is a nice weighty but very comfortable necklace, highly stylish and elegant, a real crowd pleaser.

Virabhadra, incarnation of Shiva, is often depicted in solid bronze plaques. This one however is remarkably fine, with its delicate openwork. It dates from the 16th century, possibly earlier and was made in West India. It has a warm brown patina and appropriate age wear. There is a very old repair just above the small figure on the left. Height 26 cm (the sculpture), 32 cm including the stand.
