SOLD. Seated Jizo Bosatsu, a hoju (sacred jewel) held in both hands, sculpted from a fine-grained igneous stone. Early-Edo period ca. 1650. Overall black-soot patination due to centuries of exposure to the smoke of candles, oil lamps, and incense sticks used for devotional purposes.
Height: 15.0 cm An exquisitely sculpted little gem of a Jizo. The wooden dais shown in the photographs is not included. 19th Century Sharkskin Head Band Case with Lacquered Dragon and Many Fine Details. A string would have been looped through either the lacquered dragon or the brass ring on the lid. Only a high-ranking person would have had a case that was made of sharkskin. This one is completely covered in sharkskin. The beautifully rendered brass hardware has grape motifs etched into them, a symbol of abundance, because of its many seeds. This item was made in China for export, circa 1750, during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). Condition - there is a well restored rim chip with associated 5.5cm (2.2inch) hairline (please view enlargements 5 & 6) and there are minor glaze imperfections. 36cm (14.1 inches) across.Weight 1.1 kg (2lb 7oz)

Sold to China - March 2012 售至中国 - 2012 年3月 A rare and very finely enamelled deep dish depicting two cranes, a pine tree and lingzhi fungus (all symbols for long life) and two bats (good luck). The base carries the six character iron red reign mark of the Guangxu emperor and this item was made during his reign (1875-1908). Condition - there are three 2.5cm (1 inch) light hairlines running from the rim (please view enlargements); no further damages and no restoration. 5cm (2 inches) deep; 24.6cm (9.6 inches) diameter.

Sold to Canada - March 2012 售至加拿大 - 2012年3月 A finely potted deep dish, or shallow bowl, well painted in underglaze blue depicting three sinuous Chilong dragons amongst clouds and Lingzhi fungus. This item was made in the early 18th Century during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor (1723-1735). Condition - very good - there is one small shallow under rim chip (please view enlargements 3 & 5), no further damages and no restoration. 3.8cm (1.5 inches) deep; 16cm (6.3 inches) diameter.
