$79 A whimsical khaki green-yellow glazed Japanese pottery figural sake pot depicting a tanuki trying to make off with a proportionately larger sake barrel. Early 20th century to turn of that century. Good condition. Height 3 1/2 inches (8.89cm). About 4 1/2 inches (11.4cm) length from tanuki's nose.

This piece is a virtual textbook on Yohen firing effects. Tamadare, Shinshoku, koge and other effects are supplanted by a large white kutsuki on the front, all under the shadow of the shattered rim fused to the shoulder. SOLD. Seated Jizo Bosatsu, a hoju (sacred jewel) held in both hands, sculpted from a fine-grained igneous stone. Early-Edo period ca. 1650. Overall black-soot patination due to centuries of exposure to the smoke of candles, oil lamps, and incense sticks used for devotional purposes.

The wooden dais shown in the photographs is not included. 19th Century Sharkskin Head Band Case with Lacquered Dragon and Many Fine Details. A string would have been looped through either the lacquered dragon or the brass ring on the lid. Only a high-ranking person would have had a case that was made of sharkskin. This one is completely covered in sharkskin. The beautifully rendered brass hardware has grape motifs etched into them, a symbol of abundance, because of its many seeds. This item was made in China for export, circa 1750, during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). Sold to China - March 2012 售至中国 - 2012 年3月 A rare and very finely enamelled deep dish depicting two cranes, a pine tree and lingzhi fungus (all symbols for long life) and two bats (good luck). The base carries the six character iron red reign mark of the Guangxu emperor and this item was made during his reign (1875-1908). Condition - there are three 2.5cm (1 inch) light hairlines running from the rim (please view enlargements); no further damages and no restoration. 5cm (2 inches) deep; 24.6cm (9.6 inches) diameter.
