By the late-11th century, the yosegi-zukuri joined-block construction method was widely employed by Buddhist sculptors trained in the traditional Kyoto/Nara workshops. Description:

A boxwood root was intriguingly carved and hollowed into a charming brush pot.
Being penetrated as wall of holes for light going through, the scholar item was most favoured by literati for the natural mood.
It was reserved in very good condition by enduring old patina.
The under cover was an old restoration.

Antique Japanese small sterling silver box with handle, hinged doors on front decorated with incised design of lady's cart, sides decorated with blossoming plum branches, interior has four small wooden drawers with velvet lining and silver moko shaped drawer pulls, sterling mark on back, Meiji Period. Size: 6 1/4" high x 5 1/2" wide x 4 1/2" deep.

Heavy pigment on thickly veined gold creates a powerful collection of scenes from the Taiheiki, the 11th century story of the fall of the courtiers and usurpation of power by two military families, the Taira and the Genji. A large Mimitsuki Vase covered in deeply fissured celadon glaze by Suzuki Sansei (b. 1936) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The translucent glaze is like that of an agate, shattered with heat, the crackling wide in the thick pale bluish green fog. The vase is 11 inches (28 cm) tall, 5-1/2 inches (13.5 cm) diameter and in perfect condition.

A sitting bronze figure was nicely cast.
Being depicted as a scholar with flouring robe and a official hat, the figure was in casual mood by resting his arm to the stool beside him.
It was perfectly preserved with nice darken patina.
