This item was made in China during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). Sold, Thank you! A stunning box covered entirely in mother of pearl upon which is the crescent moon in lead under maki-e gold florals. Inside Rimpa style dear rest in lead and gold maki-e on a ground of red-tinted Nashiji. The box is in excellent condition, likely dating from the mid 19th century. It measures 22 x 24.5 x 5 cm (8-1/2 x 9-1/2 x 2 inches).

SOLD. Four lotus stems sculpted from wood and finished in lacquer and gilt, late-Edo Period ca. 1850, in an iron vase, mid-Edo Period ca. 1750. Lotus stems show old loss both to the wood and lacquer/gilt finish, as well as an old partial refinishing; the iron vase is in very good condition, with no leaks.

SOLD. Standing Jizo Bosatsu semi-figurally sculpted from a lightweight sedimentary stone composed largely of volcanic ash, a sacred jewel held in the left hand and a crozier in the right. Late-Edo Period ca. 1850. Minor old loss. Abundant lichen accumulation.

A set of old Japanese wooden combs with a cloth comb holder. These are hair styling combs used when most women had the hairdo of today’s geisha. Each comb had a different function which was basically to comb, style and clean the hair. The combs here are all hand cut and it appears that some were added later. All combs are cleaned.
