A heavy 18th Century double walled cup - the outer wall carved with reticulated decoration and painted with small famille rose flowers. This item was made in China during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). A stunning box covered entirely in mother of pearl upon which is the crescent moon in lead under maki-e gold florals. Inside Rimpa style dear rest in lead and gold maki-e on a ground of red-tinted Nashiji. The box is in excellent condition, likely dating from the mid 19th century. It measures 22 x 24.5 x 5 cm (8-1/2 x 9-1/2 x 2 inches).

Four lotus stems sculpted from wood and finished in lacquer and gilt, late-Edo Period ca. 1850, in an iron vase, mid-Edo Period ca. 1750. Lotus stems show old loss both to the wood and lacquer/gilt finish, as well as an old partial refinishing; the iron vase is in very good condition, with no leaks.

Seated Bato (Horse-Head) Kannon Bosatsu figurally sculpted from a gray-hued medium-density igneous stone, a horse-head perched atop the head and the hands forming this deity's signature Bato Myo-in mudra. Mid- to late-Edo Period ca. 1800. 0ld loss, most notably to the upper portion of the hands and to one side of the horse-head.

This set of dolls was made for Japanese Boy’s Day. It comes from one of Japanese folklores, Peach Boy, Momotaro. Momo is translated to peach and Taro (ta-ro-o) is a common name for boys.
