$6,500.00 A very large example of an antique Japanese Baku corbel used in a temple or shrine. The Baku is a mythical spiritual creature which resides in the Buddhist realm. Its purpose is to devour evil spirits as well as one's nightmares. Carved from one solid block of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood, this architectural sculpture has stood the test of time.

$1,450.00 An antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) made of kiri (paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including stylized gumbai handles. Two sliding kiri wood panels framed in black lacquer over two large drawers for safe keeping of inventory. Iron drawer corners feature raised seed pods suggesting this chest originated in the Yonezawa region of Japan.

$900.00 Cast bronze tripod, representing three dragon heads that hold their feet in their mouths. In the center a small container. It could be a censer. Maybe a candlestick. The style of the dragons with these long ears and the unicorn seem to us from the Yuan period or the beginning of the Ming. The excellent multi-centenary old patina would confirm such an ancient time. I don't think anything is missing in the center, because there are no signs of wear.

Kebutsu (lit. transformed Buddha) seated upon a lotus-form dais, ichiboku-zukuri single-block wooden construction with lacquer-and-gilt finish, displayed on a pierced-work gilt-copper keko (Buddhist ritual-use flower basket). The kebutsu mid-Edo ca. 1750, the keko clearly dated to the third year of the Genroku Era (1680), mid-Edo Period. Very minor old loss and patination.
