Waraku started producing Raku wares around 1830 in Kyoto and now Motoo Kawasaki is the 8th generation of Waraku.
Raku pottery is traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremony since as early as the 16th century.

Japanese Contemporary Ceramic Crab or Fish Serving Bowl in signed Wooden Box, 9" round, 3 1/2" high, hand molded, impressed mark on the outside,

Distinctly art deco, this C.1920 late Taisho Period exemplifies the burgeoning japanese basket makers shift to bold weaves and incorporating new mediums. The use of fuji (wisteria vines) intertwined with bamboo creates an entirely new ascetic. 16" tall and 9" wide. Ask for shipping quote.

Beautifully carved sunflowers steeped in a deep crimson lacquer. C. 1945. Brazier initially used as a hand warmer, it would make a lovely flower vase. H:7 1/2" by 12" in diameter. Ask for shipping quote.

It is a thick indigo dyed cotton noren that looks like a very nice folding screen of Taisho era. It is a very auspicious pine, bamboo, plum and crane, turtle design. There is a faint fading part, but overall it is in very good condition. On the far right is the name and date of the orderer for this noren. There is a family crest of the house. Very rare bronze sculpture of Daiitoku, one of the five Myoo. He is represented with six heads (three large, three small), six legs and six arms that are holding the different attributes, while he is sitting on the back of a reclining long-horned buffalo. Here, Daiitoku holds his main hands clasped together. In the others he holds a staff, chakra, sword and trident. A flaming mandorla has been inserted in the back of the buffalo and is held in place by a metal strip on the back of Daiitoku . Bro...

Set of three large identical keman, made of gilt bronze. Decorative hangings from a Buddhist temple.

Each keman is fan-shaped (or perhaps boar's eye-shaped) with a design of two pairs of double chrysanthemum family crests set between karakusa (winding weeds) in openwork. The knotted cord in the center is executed in gilt bronze repoussé (hollow underneath). The openwork design is very carefully executed, with engraved details and nanako ground.

A striking design of swirling dots decorates this wide low chawan by female porcelain legend Ono Hakuko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Yuri Haku-kin Sai Hira Chawan (White Gold Decorated Wide Tea Bowl).
