A Chinese, black glazed bowl with splashed-ash decoration from the Jizhou kiln. Southern Song to Yuan dynasty; C13-14th. The glaze terminating above the swiftly-cut foot to show the pale, buff coloured, paste. Diameter, 11.9 cm. Provenance: from the deceased estate of a North Yorkshire collector; acquired in China in the first half of the C20th. Condition: A chip to the inner rim with an associated hairline crack which terminates towards the foot.

The Guinomi is 8 x 8.5 x 5.5 cm (roughly 3 inches diameter, 2 inches tall). An antique Japanese Sendai Tansu in 2 sections made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware including the stylized Mokko handles. Urushi lacquer finish and Chrysanthemum incised lock plates. Hinged security door hides two small drawers where valuables were stored.
