An attractive wooden table screen with a carved and painted scene of a saint on a horse with three attendants. China. 19th century.
Dimensions: H. 40 cm, W. 27 cm.
Condition: original polychrome, some age cracks and shrinkage, the left leg slides off, the right one now stuck.

He was finely preserved on the surface with enduring old patina, like the sheen of the old bronze. The patina was charming and was hardly found from the wood pieces. The wood is approximately 1.3 inches thick and retains much of the original finish though it is obviously worn in some areas. The tradition carvings of 2 dragons chasing the pearl is very well done. The piece is about 5 inches high and 17 inches long.

Many jade pigs were used for this purpose in later times and are sometimes mistaken for Han pieces. Size: L.10cm. H. 2.8cm. W. 2.3cm. Condition: No chips. Some calcification.

Sold. Thank you. A nicely carved natural amber pendant of the Hand of Buddha Citron. There is a hole at the top on the piece so it can be worn as a pendant. The citron fruit may be given as a religious offering in Buddhist temples. According to tradition, Buddha prefers the "fingers" of the fruit to be in a position where they resemble a closed rather than open hand, as closed hands symbolize to Buddha the act of prayer. Size: L. 5cm. W. 2.5cm. Condition: Perfect.

$175.00 Made from ox horn, and shaped into a perfectly balanced shoehorn, this antique Chinese folk art artifact serves in both form and function. There is a delicately carved design on the back. The handle part of the horn has eyes carved so that the piece takes the shape of an animal and there is a hole carved so that the shoehorn can be hung from a cord. I vaguely remember hearing that the Chinese inventing the shoehorn, but have not been able to verify this as historic fact.

By the unique outlook which the Chinese usually depicted to the divines, the Lohan takes the casual posture of leaning to one side when holding in hand with a scroll. By contemplating facial expression, the sage wears only one shoe on the foot when letting loose of another to the stool side...

SOLD to USA OCT 07 售至美国 - 2007年10月 A rare very well carved soapstone sculpture of Lui Hai in traditional pose ensnaring the three -legged toad with a string of cash. This item was made circa 1750 - 1800 during the reigns of either the Qianlong or the Jaiqing Emperors. The tip of one finger is missing and there is an old glued repair - most visible on the upper foot. Little of the original paintwork is now visible.
Height - 7.5 inches (19cm)...
