This is a very special Japanese cloisonne bowl. It was made by Ogasawara Shuzo. Shuzo's ability to capture a life-like quality make his pieces with fish some of the finest ever created in the Meiji Era. The bowls is in excellent condition. It measures 7 inches across and is 3 1/2 inches tall.

Large storage jug of typical Shigaraki stoneware with small white inclusions, made in three sections, decorated in multicolor enamel and gold with a cat making a mouse train come to an abrupt halt. A cat, high back, hissing at the mouse going at the head of a train, makes the train come to a dead stop and the following mice tumble, roll, spill in a ripple effect. Lacquer covers the natural curves of this wood tray for use in the service of Sencha leaf Green Tea. It is 10 x 14-1/2 x 1 inches (25.5 x 37 x 2.5 cm). The bottom shows wear typical of use.
The importance of Sencha in the late Edo and Meiji periods cannot be overlooked, and has been studied in depth in the book Tea of the Sages, the Art of Sencha by Patricia Jane Graham.

This is a very fine and unusual Japanese Satsuma vase with relief figures. The work on this piece is highly detailed and the gold thickly applied. The Dragon and clouds are decorated with silver. The piece is in very good condition will minor wear. The Artist signature is the most worn area on the piece. With magnification it can be seen that it is signed Fuzan but it is very hard to make out. I have included a similar Fuzan mark for comparison. The vase stands 8 1/2 inches tall.

An antique Japanese imari ware covered basin. The basin is decorated with traditional auspicious Japanese motifs such as pine, bamboo, plum, and cranes. Along with the auspicious motifs are designs often seen with imari wares such as scrolling vines and chrysanthemum-like patterns. Often, these patterns are known as kinrande, where the motifs are emulating gold brocades. Age: Meiji Period Size: Diameter 11.5" Height 7"

A round vase decorated with various flowers, emulating the Chinese style of porcelain known as mille fleur. The work was produced by the contemporary kutani artist, Nakata Kingyoku. Spectacular Meiji Period maru obi c.1900. Woven on both sides with a jacquard loom, the blue/green dyes make this a superb example of a Kyoto style obi. The motifs are fans with pine, plum, bamboo, chrysanthemum and cranes; all auspicious symbols of happiness and good fortune. Excellent condition. Can be made into table runners or hangings. A simple and rustic painting of a group of bamboo done in sumi on silk by the abbot of Sentsuji, Butsugai. The inscription on the top is providing a metaphorical allusion of enduring suffering with the flexible nature of the bamboo.

A hexagonal faceted gourd shaped vase decorated in a style not often found in traditional Kutani ware, but more so in traditional Japanese kinrande style porcelains.
