The woven silk panel is decorated in the typical Kyoto style of the early Edo period. Sewn on a cotton base. Colored silk threads, and silk threads covered with rolled gold ribbon. The whole is made up of three strips with identical silk decorations sewn together, their width must correspond to the maximum width imposed by the looms of the time? Good condition, which is exceptional as well as the dimensions, 171x165cm. Mark painted in black ink.

Wet swirls of color, lavender and thin blue fringed with yellow decorated this odd shaped slab-ware vase by Shigemori Yoko enclosed in a signed wooden box titled Murasaki no Hi (Purple Days). This is a work in unusual style by one of our favorite female artists. It is 22x 8.5 x 19.5 cm (9 x 3-1/4 x 8 inches) and is in excellent condition enclosed in a box annotated by her brother Naoki.

An antique Japanese Todana Tansu (storage chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Two sliding doors open to a spacious storage area. All original bronze hardware. Horizontal slats on doors and sides providing architectural design and provides strength and support. Optional custom shelf can be added by our expert craftsmen.

Dragons charge the sides of this large water urn covered in crackled pale glaze emblazoned with a panel which specifies: Water for the 11 Faced Kannon (Quanyin). Inside is lined with iron glaze. Outside key frets surround the rim leading to a nearly flat shoulder upon which blossom five petaled plum flowers. Below this the dragons vie in the tempest, with the base drawing precipitously covered in Shipppo designs (7 treasures). It is 38 cm (15 inches) tall, 34 cm (13-1/2 inches) diameter...

Girl's kimono made of hand-spun cotton with flower motif which is Yuzen-zome (hand-painting). The ground cloth is benibana (safflower) dye. Benibana was grown in Yamagata prefecture in Edo period, and it was very precious. It was traded to Kyoto and dyed there for kosode kimono or others for women of a family of high-ranking samurai or merchants. Benibana dye has faded in upper back, but generally in good condition. A playful bowl in vivid colors by Tokuda Junko (Tokuda Yasokichi IV) enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled simply Kutani Chawan. It is 13cm (just over 5 inches) diameter, 8.5 cm (3-1/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Tokuda Junko (Yasokichi IV) was born the first child of future Living National Treasure Tokuda Masahiko in 1961...

Mochizuki Gyokusei(1900−1951）was a Japanese painter born in Kyoto. He was a pupil of prominent artists Nishiyama Suisho (1879-1958) as well as his father Mochizuki Gyokukei (1874-1938). Gyokusei graduated from and taught at the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts and the Kyoto Municipal Special School of Painting for further art education in Kyoto...
