White slip covers the dark clay of this striated tea bowl from the Edo period kilns of Hagi stored in a beautiful silk pouch in a period wooden box annotated with a poem by Tea Master Kawakami Soju (1777-1844). Slightly elongated, the bowl measures 12 x 10.5 x 9 cm (5 x 4 x 3-1/2 inches). There are two hairline cracks on the inside of the bowl which do not appear to go through to the outside.

Cotton horse rein made of handspun cotton with katazome (stencil-resist dye) stripes which is vegetable indigo dye. It is folded into quarters of the original width, 35cm. It has a fragment with letters "Taian" which mean the most auspicious day, and it might have used for a ceremony or a festival. In good condition but has a few small brownish stains and indigo bleeding parts, however, inside is very clean. The second half of the 19th century. W:8.5cm, L:5m14cm

Cotton cloth with katazome (stencil-resist dye) with "Gosho-Guruma" (wheel of the ancient court carriage) motif, which is handspun cotton. The dye technique is Ai-gaeshi which means it is dyed with vegetable indigo twice. In excellent condition. The second half of the 19th to early 20th century. W:32.5cm, L:181cm
