Beautiful Antique Japanese koruri dans also known as an apothecary tansu. Made from kiri and sugi wood, with one hundred and two small drawers! Each inscribed with the name of a herb/medicine that was to be stored in slotted compartments. There are two thin drawers at its center bottom with flower shaped handle backs and two larger drawers at either side. Each drawer has a round black iron handles.

An exquisite deep blue covers the dark iron-rich clay of this Shino Vase by Kato Toyohisa enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Ash Purple “no” Glaze Vase. Here he plays with sound, substituting the character for purple (shi) for the usual character Shi in Shino. It is 11-1/2 inches (28 cm) tall and in excellent condition.
Toyohisa was born in 1962...

Japanese antique okimono carved of boxwood in the form of a lovely lady standing with an octopus. A whimsical scene with the lady holding the "nose" of the octopus who in return is sneaking his tentacle up her kimono. Wonderful attention to detail can be seen in the weaving of the basket behind the two figures as well as in the suction cups of the tentacles and the fashionable Edo Period knot in the woman's long hair. This is Kyogen Hakama which the child of the rich civilian of Kyoto used for the Meiji period. This has the crest that Kyogen is characteristic of the part of the waist. As for this, the whole is dyed with an indigo plant by Katazome. This has several places of thin dirts. And this has several places of extremely small holes. As for this, cotton is thin. This is tsutsugaki & handwriting fireman's cotton coat sashiko hanten coat of a splendid firefighter of the late Tokugawa period of the Edo era(1800-1867). A fight of kawanakajima is a design. It is a very high technique. A samurai (takeda shingen and uesugi kenshin) and a horse are drawn and are also the uplifting feeling and the excitement which seem to begin to move shortly. And there is sashiko stitch on the entire surface by hand. As for it, length is longish with 92cm...
