SOLD Antique Chinese long altar table, made from a beautiful dark hardwood, with a dark, blackish brown finish, interesting patina on the tabletop, carved panels on both legs of a chimera, head down with its tails curled upwards amongst other swirling designs. Pierced carvings of pointed spirals adorn the undersides of the table on either side of the legs. 19th century

SOLD. Seated Amida Buddha, the hands placed centrally on the lap in the Amida jo-in concentration mudra, sculpted in relief from tuff, an igneous stone composed largely of volcanic ash. Late-Muromachi Period ca. 1550. Very minor old loss, with variegated lichen accumulation.
Height: 46 cm A charming Amida Buddha most likely employed as a Dosojin road-guardian stone, showing clear stylistic signs of a Muromachi-Period manufacture. Uncommon.

Sold, Thank you A pair of superb Tokkuri by Raku Kichizaemon enclosed in the original signed wooden box, each stamped on the base, each unique with one in dark Raku glaze, the other swiped with ash leaving large areas of raw clay exposed. Each one is 16 cm (6 inches) tall and in fine condition. These are by the Kichizaemon X, according to the book Sado Bijutsu Teccho, it is the earliest of his four known stamps.

Sold, With thanks An angular pottery form covered in Seto glaze by Kawamoto Taro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The pierced sides are reminiscent of an oki-goro (an incense burner placed over a dish in which incense burns). It is 18 x 8 x 9 inches (46 x 20 x 23 cm) and in excellent condition, consistent with works dating from the later 80s.

Calligraphy by the Joseon Dynasty's Last Prime Minister, Lee Wan Yong aka Ildang (1858 - 1926). He was prime minister of Korea in 1906 - 1910. Lee is Korea's most infamous traitor, the "Benedict Arnold of Korea", for signing the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty in 1910.
