The artist would have started with a plain white base, painted his design with a mixture of finely ground cobalt oxide and water, and then used a transparent glaze all over. Large Song Celadon bowl, olive green in color. In very good condition without chips or cracks. There is an incised flower pattern in the bottom of the bowl. Otherwise, small fritting /granulation is evident in the bottom of the bowl and a couple of these may have been compromised/worn down. Nice overall symmetrical shape and crackle in the glaze is quite faint. Diameter: 7 plus inches and 3 inches in height.

Sold, thank you! A small Song Dynasty celadon bowl in good condition. Carved lotus leaf pattern to outside. Apart for some wear as may be expected, there are only some very minor chips to base rim. Lovely color and good symmetry. Small noticeable mark on rim that likely occurred during firing. Diameter: 5 inches

A latticework Hoya of solid silver caps this fine porcelain koro incense burner, a joint work by Miura Chikusen and Hashimoto Kansentsu, enclosed in the original shiho-kiri-wood box signed by both artists. It is 8.5 cm (3-1/2 inches) tall 11 x 16 cm across the handles (4-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches). Beast heads form the handles with a scholarly hut on one side, a poem in ancient script opposite. It is signed on the base by Chikusen and on the side by Kansetsu.
