A beautiful and decorative object that would have been placed on a scholar’s desk for contemplation. Artistic scholar’s rock (gongshi) made of bronze. This relatively rare type of gongshi was made by dripping red-hot molten bronze onto a pile of fresh pine chips. When coagulating the bronze would then “freeze” into its present form. Antique Chinese brush pot. Carved of beautiful, heavy and dense huanghuali wood. Dark color wood with dark patina and lighter honey brown striations. Thick sides, carved with slight outward flare, wider at the mouth. Foot and rim are carved with subtle, fine cusp. With plug in bottom. A prized object for any scholar's table.

A fine and unusual brush rest in the shape of a dragon-fish or some similar mythological animal. Carved of what appears to be boxwood with a dark-reddish lacquer coating. On the bottom side an illegible signature in raised relief consisting of two Chinese characters. Qing, probably second half of 18th cent. L 15 cm. Condition: Fine all-over, but with wear due to age & handling.

The bronze is cast with lost wax and is hollow but very thick. Beautiful casting and good sculpting finish. No traces of gilding or pigment. The figure is in a very dynamic position, with unusual gestures difficult to model. The artist has given the hands a beautiful elegance by bending the fingers excessively. The bronze has a beautiful antique patina which dates back to the 18th century or earlier. No restoration, good condition...

A Unique Sculpture for the Scholar’s table (Chinese: Gongshi), it looks like made of a kind of cypress wood, Interesting details, with hols and crevasses and high peeks creating an image of high flames with a brown reddish patina. Hard wood fitted base. Size: H 40 x W 23 x D 18 cm. China , beginning of 20 century. Very good condition, the picture do not render well enough the beauty of the piece!

A rare brushpot caved in coconut. On one side 1 temple surrounded by 1 dragon with a fish tail (Makara) and a fish. On the other side 2 dragons surrounding the sacred pearl which curiously has the shape of an inverted heart. We can see the same heart on a coconut box illustrated on page 96 of book 44 of the complete collection of the Palace Museum...

An antique statue of Li Tieguai resting with one foot on a crutch and holding a gourd, carved from a large bamboo piece with nice patina. One of the eight immortals of the Chinese Taoist pantheon. Condition: the hand holding the gourd and the crutch around the foot with glue residue. Dimension: c. 34.5 cm high. Dated in cycle years to 1999 and signed in black ink Dawei with one red Dawei seal of the artist. Mounted for framing with a cream-colored silk border.
