This rare and unusual pottery object is a model of a well and was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is made from quite a high-fired red pottery that has been coated in green glaze that has, due to long burial, acquired a very attractive silvery iridescence. At the top of the "A-frame" is a small tiled roof, above the pulley, below which are two dragon heads. To the edge of the well-head is the water bucket.
