Fine & Rare Chinese Western Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Hare

This fine and very rare pottery model of a hare was made over 2,000 years ago during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a grey pottery that has been "cold painted" in a base coat of a creamy-white pigment on top of which have been applied yellow-ochre, red and black pigments. The hare sits upright, alert with its ears pricked up and front paws against its chest.

Lovely two handled pottery jar from the Northern China circa (2200 BCE – 1600 BCE), Classic Qijia Period in near perfect condition with just a couple of minor chips on one handle. H: 12.9cm/5.1in and W: 11.8cm/4.7in.

Pair of massive Chinese foliate form cloisonne chargers each decorated with two five-clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl among clouds. The first is set against an egg-yolk yellow background with a blue band of flowers and scrolling foliage surrounding the foliate form edge. The second is set against a blue background with an egg-yolk yellow band around the edge. At the center base of each is a rectangular plaque holding an apocryphal six-character Qianlong mark. Pair of Italian glass ghost lamps by Gino Vistosi. The Italian mid century murano white glass table lamps in a ghost / spirit shape with a translucent wedge segment slightly above a molded fulcrum point. Both are in original working condition.

Hard porcelain vase. Cracked cream glaze. Enameled decoration representing a couple of Hô-Hô perched on a tree. Chinese work around 1900, but perhaps Japanese, imitating the Chinese famille rose. Amusing technical detail, if the whole vase is painted freehand, only the upper frieze representing the stylized clouds was executed with a stamp as for the Hixing, in order to obtain regularity, this is visible in a place where 2 clouds overlap. Mid 20th century textile from the Mulao ethnic group Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Province. This is a two paneled blanket with original border and supplementary weft silk embroidered pattern phoenix and flowers on a cotton field “key fret” pattern- all handspun threads. Good condition - no holes or missing embroidery threads. L: 110cm/43in and W: 66cm/cm/26in- with blue cotton border L: 153cm/59in and W: 110cm/43on.

Good representation in the style of Lin Rongqian’s cursive calligraphy, as a Mandarin: Fu Lu/Cantonese: Fuk. This is a gift given to someone to congratulate them and wish them financial success in their career. This is a scroll mounted painted meant to be hung horizontally. There are small tabs in the upper side with which to do so. Mounted- L: 150cm/59in and W: 60cm/23in.

Chinese late Ming dynasty Wanli period kendi with a compressed globular body and mammiform spout decorated on the body in underglaze cobalt blue with flowers and scrolling foliage on a faintly blue-gray tinted white porcelain ground. Leafy peaches and ribboned lozenges decorate the spout and a band around the shoulder. The tubular neck, which flares to a wide disk shaped mouth, is painted with a stiff leaf band. The base is glazed and the foot rim is unglazed...

Chinese late Ming dynasty porcelain bowl with a slightly flared rim decorated around the exterior in underglaze blue with six Sanskrit characters, each above a flower, set against a blue-gray tinted white porcelain ground. Several blue rings encircle both the rim and foot. A circular panel in the well holds another Sanskrit character above a flower. Likely 17th century. 5 3/4” diameter x about 2 1/2" high. Good overall condition...

Two Chinese Ming dynasty jarlets decorated in underglaze blue on a white porcelain ground with lotus flowers and scrolling foliage. Unglazed bases. 2 3/4" diameter x 2" - 2 1/8" high each. Circa 1500. Very good overall condition. From the estate of a former American expatriate to Hong Kong and China in the 1970s and 1980s.
