This exceptionally large brush pot is carved "au naturel" to imitate a tree trunk. The sculpture is very well executed with a perfect natural rendering. The wood is very heavy, shaded with dark brown, black and red, naturally, without having been stained. The grain is fine and tight. Rosewood or Sandalwood? The trunk was hollowed out with a small "hole saw". This pot was purchased in the 90s. A photo shows it "in situ" in 2016...

The decoration is in the continuity of the Ming Dynasty, likewise the clay still containing iron oxide turning orange during firing is typical of this period. Large Chinese Neolithic / Bronze Age Pottery Jar - Siwa Culture (c. 1350 BC)

This large and impressive pottery jar dates to the Siwa culture (c. 1350 BC) from Qinghai or Gansu province. It has a relatively small flat base and a wide saddle-shaped mouth. There are two loop handles that join the shoulder to the rim. The surface colour of the pottery has interesting variations in places, from an attractive deep orange to grey, a result of uneven conditions during the firing process...

Late 18th Century or Early 19th Century Chinese Soapstone Carved Immortal Cao Guojiu from 8 Immortals Sculpture

It is 6.9 inches (17.5 cm) tall by 3.3 inches (8.5 cm) wide. It is 1.5 lb.

It has been repaired (glued back) at one piece at the sleeves. It also has chips at the hat, sleeves, thumb, edge of robe, inclusions, hairline cracks, traces of glue at the bottom, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos)...
